Four reasons why Rohit Sharma should replace Virat Kohli as India’s limited overs captain
In recent years, India's performance in all three formats has been
commendable under the captaincy of Virat Kohli. Kohli's aggression and passion
have helped the Indian team to rise from the ashes but now, many legends feel
that the Indian team should try split captaincy and give the leadership sword
to some other players. Among all the players, Rohit Sharma has been Kohli's
deputy for the last couple of years and captained the Indian side in Kohli's
absence. Many former Indian captains think that the torch of captaincy for
limited-overs cricket should be passed to Rohit Sharma.
Here are the four reasons why Rohit should replace Kohli as India’s limited-overs captain:
1. To ease the pressure of captaincy on Virat Kohli: For the past few
years, Virat Kohli has been handling the pressure of captaincy very well but
the concept of split captaincy might help Kohli to work hard on his batting
skills. Although the performance graph of Kohli has always shown a stunning
improvement during his captaincy. But after a phase, it becomes tough for a
player to focus on the captaincy as well as his own performance.
2. Rohit Sharma has lifted four IPL trophies: Rohit Sharma is one of the
most successful captains in the history of IPL and there is no doubt about it.
He has won four IPL trophies as a captain. Having a good track record as a
captain also give the edge to Rohit Sharma and we all are aware that he can
handle the pressure of captaincy better than anyone else. In all the IPL leagues, Rohit has been very consistent with his batting as well as batting.
3. Past performances as an Indian captain: In Kohli's absence, Rohit Sharma has always been succeeded to sail India's boat in many limited-overs series. If we talk about the stats, Rohit Sharma took the leadership charge 19 times in T20Is and won 15 matches out of the total matches. Thus, Rohit Sharma is already prepared to take this huge responsibility on his shoulders.
4. Rohit is calmer and more composed as compared to Kohli: No offense to
Kohli but when it comes to handling critical situations, Kohli loses his temper
but Rohit seems to stay calm and take his decisions accordingly. Although, many
times Kohli's aggression has given a lot of energy to the whole team.
Other than these reasons, even Virat Kohli would be happy to pass the
Battalion of limited-overs formats captaincy to Rohit Sharma, so he can focus
more on the longest format of the game.
